Curling icon Kevin Martin has been recognized with one of Canada’s highest honours.

On Wednesday, Martin was named one of 88 new appointees to the prestigious Order of Canada.

Widely regarded as one of the sport’s all-time greats, Martin led Canada to a gold medal on home ice at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. His remarkable career also includes a world championship, four Brier titles, and a record 18 Grand Slam of Curling men's titles.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Martin played a key role in the creation of the Grand Slam of Curling series.

Following his retirement in 2014, the Edmonton native transitioned to broadcasting as a colour commentator for Sportsnet’s curling coverage, while continuing his work as an ambassador for the Grand Slam of Curling. Martin also runs a youth curling academy, mentoring the next generation of curling stars.
