A Legacy Carved in Stone

Brad Gushue and his curling team are set to be immortalized with a monument recognizing their exceptional contributions to the sport, both locally and internationally.
On November 20, DewCor and CEO Danny Williams revealed that a statue has been commissioned to honor Team Gushue. The artwork, crafted by renowned Newfoundland sculptor Morgan MacDonald, will be prominently displayed at the site of the newly planned Multiplex and Curling Facility in Galway.
Williams described MacDonald's sculpture as one that would "capture the magic and spirit of Team Gushue." He went on to highlight the incredible achievements of Gushue and vice-skip Mark Nichols, calling them among the province's most accomplished athletes.
"Brad Gushue and Mark Nichols are among the most prolific and talented athletes this province has ever produced," Williams said in a press release. "Brad has shown remarkable leadership in assembling teams that consistently excel on the world stage. This statue will celebrate the incredible journey of Team Gushue over the years, serving as a lasting reminder of what can be achieved through passion, dedication, and teamwork."
Williams further emphasized that the team has made Newfoundland proud, acting as ambassadors for the province on the global stage.
To support the creation of the statue, Williams has pledged a $100,000 donation. In addition to corporate sponsorships, Curling Newfoundland will also assist in fundraising efforts to help bring the project to life.
Preliminary designs for the statue include representations of both Gushue and Nichols, as well as symbolic elements representing the other members of the team. A plaque will also be included, listing all the individuals who have been part of the team over the years, from past to present.
Throughout his career, Gushue has led his team to remarkable achievements, including five Brier victories, Olympic gold and bronze medals, and numerous international titles. These accomplishments will be celebrated as part of the monument, which will serve as a lasting tribute to their legacy in curling.
